MEETING HIGHER STANDARDS
Greenwashing is a challenge. At Avocado, we let our certifications do the talking. The Global Organic Latex Standard, the Global Organic Textile Standard, OEKO-TEX, Greenguard Gold, B Corp, and Climate Neutral are some of the toughest certifications for safety, non-toxicity, social impact, and environmental responsibility.
ORGANIC
GLOBAL ORGANIC
TEXTILE STANDARD
Our organic cotton and organic wool are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (CU863637). Our organic mattresses, pillows, and bedding are also GOTS-certified organic products (CU863637), which have at least 95% organic content. These certifications cover the source materials, factory, and products and are listed in the GOTS public database.
GLOBAL ORGANIC
LATEX STANDARD
The Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) ensures that products contain more than 95% of certified organic raw material based on total weight. The GOLS standard features permissible limits for harmful substances, emissions test requirements, and polymer and filler percentages. Our latex is GOLS-certified organic (CU863637) by Control Union under our brand name, processed in factories in India and Guatemala.
USDA ORGANIC
Our natural materials — organic latex, wool, and cotton — are GOTS and GOLS certified in our brand name. Our factory in Los Angeles is also certified. And our finished products are certified. That's why our license number is always listed under our GOTS and GOLS logos, as required. Of course, these stringent standards are fully endorsed by the USDA's National Organic Program.
USDA CERTIFIED BIOBASED
Our USDA Certified Biobased Products include our Grounding Dry Body Oil (100% biobased content), Snoozy Bath Soak with Magnesium Flakes (99% biobased content), and Supercharged Reishi Body Melt (100% biobased content). The USDA Certified Biobased Product label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilizing renewable, biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals.

CLIMATE NEUTRAL
As a Climate Neutral Certified company since 2019, we've measured Avocado's annual cradle-to-consumer emissions, offset them by investing in climate change solutions, and started taking real action to reduce our emissions. We also recognize our offsets and reductions aren't enough. That's why, through our partnerships with Ceres and the American Sustainable Business Network, we also advocate for state and federal policies that provide equitable solutions to the climate crisis.
FSC® CERTIFIED
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. FSC defines standards based on agreed principles for responsible forest stewardship that are supported by environmental, social, and economic stakeholders. ZERO WASTE
We’re certified by UL Solutions for a landfill diversion rate of 85%. Since we began Project Zero Waste in 2020, we’ve increased our waste diversion rate by 33%, and we are the only mattress and bedding company to achieve this certification. But we aren’t done yet. Our goal is at least a 90% diversion rate.
RESPONSIBLE WOOL STANDARD
Our GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637) meets the Responsible Wool Standard, certified by Textile Exchange. Responsible Wool Standard farmers and ranchers must meet stringent animal welfare, land management, and social requirements. Ethical animal welfare standards are also incorporated within the Global Organic Textile Standard.
NON-TOXIC STANDARDS
GREENGUARD GOLD
Avocado mattresses and bedding products are GREENGUARD Gold Certified by UL Environment for low chemical emissions. You can view all our certified products in the SPOT database.
FORMALDEHYDE FREE
Formaldehyde is commonly used in the adhesives that hold mattresses together. This volatile organic compound has been linked to asthma, allergies, and lung, nose, and throat cancers. The EPA considers it a probable human carcinogen. You can view all our Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verified products in the SPOT database.
ECO-INSTITUT
Our latex foam has received the eco-INSTITUT label, which is required for GOTS. The eco-INSTITUT label means our latex foam rubber has been tested in Germany for levels of hazardous emissions, pollutants, and harmful substances. It also means that the polymer content of our latex, excluding the required processing agents (~5%), is made with natural rubber, not synthetic latex.
OEKO-TEX
STANDARD 100
The OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 label applies to the entire mattress, not just the organic cotton cover or latex. This means that every component of our organic mattress has been lab-tested for harmful levels of toxic substances. Avocado is one of the only innerspring mattresses in America that meets this lab-based safety standard for the full product.
MADE SAFE
Nearly all of our mattresses are certified to MADE SAFE® standards, a material-level screening process for ingredients that may harm human health, animals, aquatic life, or ecosystems. The safety certification screens for over 6,500 harmful substances, including flame retardants and fiberglass.
VEGAN
VEGAN CERTIFIED
Our vegan hybrid mattress and bedding products have all been certified and verified by Vegan Action in Richmond, Virginia. These products do not use wool and do not contain animal products or byproducts that have been tested on animals. Instead of wool, we use a generous layer of GOTS-certified organic cotton batting.
PETA APPROVED
Our vegan hybrid mattresses, pillows, and mattress pad protectors are PETA-approved vegan products—certified animal-free products made without wool and aligned with vegan values.

ACA ENDORSED
The American Chiropractic Association gives their endorsement to products of the highest quality after thorough review, analysis, testing, and evaluation by a review board of chiropractic doctors with specific and related expertise and final approval from ACA’s Board of Governors. Products are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to meet the high standards on which the endorsement was approved.
