Finally. An affordable, real wood bed frame that’s high-quality, simple to set up, and eco-friendly. We craft our sleek City Bed with American timber in our FSC® C156318 woodshop, where we combine high-tech capabilities with traditional craftsmanship. That includes a patented interlocking corner design with finger and dovetail joints that provide exceptional quality, strength, and durability. No nasty, VOC-emitting glues or finishes — the bed frame is consistent with the greater sustainability mission driving Avocado Green Brands. Best of all, it’s a breeze to assemble and take apart, with virtually no hardware.
No particleboard. No fiberboard. No toxic finishes or stains. We handcraft the rails of the City Bed from 100% real, solid timber sourced domestically. A combination of water-based ECOS® stains give it a dark color similar to walnut or, choose our clear, light finish. The dovetail joints and patented interlocking design in each corner deliver superior strength. And slats spaced approximately five inches apart provide the strong support your natural mattress needs. The result is a high-quality, eco-friendly, and affordable piece of furniture.
With its clean lines and sleek, modern design, the space-saving City Bed is easy to move and ideal for apartments and other small spaces — but it will look sharp anywhere. That’s because we build it with real, solid wood. And our eco-friendly finishes enhance its natural patina — delivering a timeless elegance.
Move a lot? This will be the one piece of furniture that will always, easily go with you. The City Bed packs up quickly and tightly. Rails lock into finger joints, while legs with dovetail joints pull the corners tightly together without any hardware. Assembly is essentially tool-free. We include an Allen wrench to tighten a few screws that add extra strength. We even provide felt pads for the legs to help protect your floors.
Augment your bedroom with our beautiful City Bed Frame Headboard. Made in our Los Angeles shop from the same American Beech wood as the rest of the frame, the headboard is easy to attach to the frame by inserting a couple of included screws in pre-drilled holes. Headboard is optional and must be selected at time of bed frame purchase.
Personalize your space with our City Bed shelves and book nook — perfect for reading material, candles, plants, and whatever else you like to keep close. With a sleek, modern design, the shelves, like the City Bed itself, are ideal for small rooms where space is a premium. Made with real, sustainably harvested Beech wood in our FSC® C156318 Los Angeles woodshop, the shelves and book nook keep all your bedside essentials close by. And assembly is a cinch — just hook your shelves where you want them on the bed frame.
We use safe, non-toxic materials that don’t emit nasty VOCs or odors. Select either a rich, dark brown stain or a clear, blonde-hued finish for your City Bed. Both finishes reveal the rich character of the wood. Sleep better knowing your frame is non-toxic, assembled with Titebond® wood glues, which are safe and produce no harmful fumes, and ECOS® wood stains.
Furniture paints and finishes are among the leading causes of indoor air pollution because they emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds). In fact, the Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and particle board commonly used in furniture construction often contain known carcinogens, such as Urea-formaldehyde or Phenol-formaldehyde. Our City Bed Frame doesn't use any of these materials. As members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, you can rest assured that our City Bed Frame supports healthy, environmentally friendly living.
Avocado is a certified B Corp and a carbon negative business. That means we voluntarily offset more than 100% of our emissions, from resource extraction all the way to shipping, by donating to carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change by supporting conservation and innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
We believe in a circular economy that accounts for the life cycle of our products. That’s one reason we design our City Bed entirely with real wood. The natural material make the bed frame biodegradable. What’s more is that our GOTS certified California factory, which we power entirely with renewable energy, is on its way toward a Zero-Waste certification, meaning almost nothing gets thrown away. We upcycle all our material byproducts. The effort is consistent with our mission to set a new bar in environmental and social responsibility.

The City Bed is constructed from solid Beech wood and solid, FSC® C156318 Douglas fir sourced in the USA. No laminates are used. Beech wood is a sustainable hardwood with well-managed growth. Beech wood is not endangered, making it an eco-friendly choice. Douglas fir is a replaceable, fast-growing species that is more sustainable than slow-growth varieties, like oak.
We do not use traditional lacquers or varnishes, which typically contain harsh chemicals that can cause headaches, nausea, and respiratory issues. Instead, our beds use a zero-VOC ECOS® wood stain from Belgium. It's non-toxic and odor-free and conforms to CDPH 01350 (VOC emissions test taken at 11, 12, & 14 days for classroom and office use), as well ASTMD-4236, specifically concerning oral toxicity, skin irritation, and respiratory effects.
Our slats are purposely unfinished to prevent your mattress from sliding.
Our assembly utilizes Titebond® wood glues, which are safe and produce no harmful fumes. They meet the requirements of ASTM D4236 for safe use with arts and crafts, and have both been approved for indirect food contact.

We believe in a circular economy that accounts for the lifecycle of our products. That’s one reason we design our City Bed Frame with natural, solid wood, which makes it biodegradable. All of the furniture from Avocado is made in our own FSC® certified woodshop in California, where standards for sustainability and social responsibility are high. No Avocado wood furniture is imported.
We operate an FSC®-certified woodshop — in a facility completely separate from our mattress factory, in Los Angeles — which produces wood dust. Read California's required Proposition 65 warning for wood dust.
Furniture cannot be returned, except when there are defects in workmanship, which are covered by a 10-year warranty. Please note that this is a natural wood product that will feature blemishes, knots, or other scars in the wood as a testimony to its age, noble character, and singular beauty.
