GOTS: What It Prohibits and Why It Matters
GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, is the leading worldwide standard for organic textiles. It certifies the entire supply chain, from how fibers are grown through how the finished product is made, all verified by independent third-party audits. What makes it meaningful is what it keeps out: no conventional cotton, virgin polyester, or mulesed wool on the fiber side, and in a certified mattress, no polyurethane foam, chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, or PVC on the manufacturing side.
This is why it matters. "Natural" is an unregulated marketing word that no one audits. "Organic" under GOTS is enforceable, with restricted inputs, full traceability, and annual independent audits. And GOTS certifies the finished product, not just a single material in it, so a brand can market something as "made with organic cotton" even if the finished item is not certified at all. Every Avocado mattress is GOTS certified at the finished-product level, and the claim is publicly verifiable at global-standards.org under license CU863637.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
For a soft, premium finish, our cover is 97% GOTS-certified organic cotton (license CU863637) blended with 3% elastane for gentle stretch and durability. The organic cotton is grown in India, without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. The small amount of elastane gives the cover its stretch and helps it hold its shape and last longer through years of use — pure organic cotton alone would wear out faster with daily use. This is fully within GOTS certification, which permits a small percentage of functional fibers like elastane precisely so organic textiles can perform in real-world products. Importantly, the cover is GOTS-certified as a whole, not just the cotton within it, so the entire cover and finished topper meet the standard's organic, environmental, and social criteria.
GOLS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC LATEX
Latex is a popular choice for mattress toppers because of its resilience, responsive support, and durability. It contours to the body and springs back as you move, providing consistent support and pressure relief that helps keep the spine in a neutral position. Latex is naturally breathable and sleeps cooler than memory foam, which tends to trap heat, for a more comfortable surface through the night. Its responsiveness also absorbs movement, so you are less likely to feel a partner shift during the night. And because it is derived from the sap of rubber trees rather than petroleum, natural latex is a renewable, more environmentally conscious alternative to polyurethane foam. Its unique production process creates a lighter, more breathable, and exceptionally resilient latex, providing a plusher sensation while maintaining excellent support and pressure relief. Ideal for those seeking a balance between comfort and durability, Pure Talalay® latex contours more gently to the body, enhancing spinal alignment and reducing pressure points for a night of more restorative sleep. Its open-cell structure promotes superior airflow, keeping you cool throughout the night. Pure Talalay latex may include a seam, which is virtually undetectable and designed to reduce waste. FSC®-certified and sustainably sourced, Pure Talalay is an eco-friendly choice for elevating your sleep experience with enhanced comfort and breathability. Pure Talalay latex is molded as a single piece for every size except Queen, King, and California King, which may have a seam due to the size of the latex core. Because no single Pure Talalay® vacuum-based mold can accommodate these dimensions, the latex is expertly joined from two molded pieces using Simalfa, a premium water-based adhesive, ensuring a comfortable and durable surface.

Thickness controls how much a topper changes your bed. The 2-inch refreshes the surface; the 3-inch — our most popular height — makes a more transformative change. When in doubt, go thicker.

Feel change: Contours more and delivers more pressure relief at the hips and shoulders. Can make a firm mattress feel considerably softer. Best for: Side sleepers who want extra cushioning at pressure points, and anyone who wants to soften a too-firm mattress or refresh the comfort of an older but still supportive one.

Easy Care
To protect your Eco Organic Latex Mattress Topper, we recommend an organic mattress protector. Spot clean only with natural cleaners. Do not machine wash. Do not iron or bleach. Dry completely after spot cleaning. Occasional airing will keep it fresh and clean. Rotate and fluff your mattress topper to help retain the loft. If desired, the topper can be flipped.

We're proud to be certified by UL Solutions for a landfill diversion rate of 88%. That means only 12% of our manufacturing waste ends up in the landfill — we upcycle or recycle the rest. Since we began Project Zero Waste in 2020, we've been a pioneer in the space, increasing our waste diversion rate by 33%. We are the first mattress and bedding company to achieve this. But we aren't done yet. Our goal is at least a 90% diversion rate.
