OUR LOS ANGELES FAMILY
MANUFACTURING TO THE WORLD'S HIGHEST ORGANIC STANDARDS
At our Los Angeles factory—where every mattress is cut and quilted—the prestigious Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) governs every step of textile processing. The equally rigorous Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) ensures that every layer of latex foam is held to uncompromising organic and processing standards. These globally recognized certifications trace materials from raw harvest through every manufacturing step to deliver truly organic, responsibly made mattresses.
Only a handful of mattress brands in the U.S. operate their own GOTS-certified production facilities. We’re proud to be part of that rare group—our Los Angeles factory (CU863637) is certified by Control Union to manufacture organic mattresses to these standards.
ORGANIC IS FOR PEOPLE AND THE PLANET
True organic certification isn’t just about the mattress—it’s about people and planet. The standards protect farm workers, safeguard ecosystems, and reduce chemical exposures. Our triple-certified organic mattresses don’t just feel premium—they are premium in every way: better for your sleep, better for your health, better for our world.
WHAT GOLS CERTIFICATION MEANS
Our facility in Los Angeles is also certified by Control Union to manufacture materials in accordance with the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS). To achieve GOLS certification, a product must contain more than 95% of certified organic raw material of the total weight. The GOLS standard specifies permissible limits for harmful substances, emission test requirements, and percentages of polymer and filler. By using transaction certificates in the supply chain, we establish traceability from the plantation to the final product.
WHY CERTIFIED
ORGANIC MATTERS
GOTS and GOLS set the gold standard for organic fibers and latex worldwide. These standards oversee everything—from raw harvest, fiber production, and foam processing, to packaging, labeling, trading, and distribution. When you see our GOTS/GOLS badge, you know the entire journey has been certified, audited, and transparently accountable.
ORGANIC CERTIFIED
THE HIGHEST ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS
We strive to ensure that all items that come through our doors meet stringent requirements. We're committed to avoiding the use of toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, functional nanoparticles, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or their enzymes. Additionally, we do not use chlorine bleaching, Azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds, or phthalates or PVCs.
PROJECT ZERO WASTE
Avocado is continually seeking innovative ways to be more sustainable — without compromising the luxurious feel of our products. From materials to manufacturing and shipping, we understand that every small decision contributes to our larger impact. Implementing sustainable, zero-waste practices is crucial if we are to make meaningful progress in the fight against climate change. In 2025, by being intentional about our materials and manufacturing, we expanded our production facility footprint while still increasing the amount of waste we diverted from landfills, achieving an overall waste diversion rate of 89%. Read more about Project Zero Waste.
SOCIAL CRITERIA
GOTS and GOLS organic certifications outline social criteria based on the key norms of the International Labor Organization (ILO). Simply put, it means to provide fair pay and safe working conditions, while saying "no" to discrimination and child labor. In fact, our valued production teams are paid living wages and provided progressive and comprehensive benefits, including family healthcare and three weeks of paid vacation.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Our GOTS and GOLS organic certifications extend to our supply chain and use a dual system to check compliance with relevant criteria, consisting of on-site auditing and residue testing.
WHOLE SYSTEM APPROACH
We believe that organic is a holistic approach to farming and food production. It must recognize the close interrelationships between all parts of the production system from the soil to you, the buyer. Agricultural principles are used to produce food of high quality in sufficient quantity and to work within natural systems and cycles throughout all levels, from the soil to plants and animals. That's why the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recognizes the Global Organic Textile Standard.
OUR LARGER VISION
GOTS and GOLS organic certifications are important and significant. But our larger vision is as aspirational as it is urgent and action-oriented: to be one of the most sustainable companies on the planet. This is just the beginning. We will continue to strive for more.
