DONATING 1% TO THE PLANET

Most companies talk about giving back. Very few submit that giving to independent verification. Since 2017, Avocado has directed more than $12 million in certified environmental giving through 1% for the Planet — with our commitment applying to every mattress sold. Combined with in-kind product donations, our total giving has typically exceeded 2% of annual revenue. That is not measured against profits, the way most corporate giving is reported. It is measured against revenue — a fundamentally larger and more demanding baseline. Every dollar is independently verified by 1% for the Planet before it counts. That verification is the point. A commitment to giving without accountability is a marketing claim. Ours is certified.

RECOGNIZED FOR LEADERSHIP

In April 2020, 1% for the Planet honored Avocado with its inaugural Pinnacle Award — recognizing a business that raises the bar for environmental responsibility and goes above and beyond its commitment. It was the first time the award had been given. We intend to keep earning it.

GET TO KNOW OUR GIVING PROGRAM

Only 3% of philanthropic giving globally goes toward environmental initiatives. 1% for the Planet exists to change that — connecting businesses and individuals with more than 5,000 vetted environmental organizations working on climate, food, land, pollution, water, and wildlife. Since its founding in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia, members have directed nearly $300 million to organizations tackling the most pressing environmental issues of our time.

"At Avocado, our mission is to be a force for good. Our partnership with 1% for the Planet means we're channeling our donations directly to the vetted nonprofits in their network who are fighting for a better world every single day."
— Christine Carpio, Senior Manager of Engagement and Social Responsibility, Avocado
