The Awara mattress is a latex hybrid mattress. It is made by manufacturing partners for Resident Home®, the same brand that owns the Dreamcloud® and Nectar® brand mattresses. Awara uses natural Dunlop latex foam in the comfort layer, which is derived from rubber trees in Asia. This latex used is Rainforest Alliance certified, which validates proper forestry management. It does not use GOLS organic certified latex. Awara does not use any latex in their base support layer. According to the legal tag on the Awara mattress, the top cover is made from a blend of 80% polyester fiber and 20% organic cotton, although no organic certification for the cotton is provided. The batting is a mix of New Zealand wool and polyester fiber. The innerspring unit of the Awara mattress is not zoned, but the ends are reinforced for edge support. It contains up to 960 pocketed innersprings in the King size. During construction, the mattress layers are not tufted together by hand. Instead, the layers of the Awara mattress are glued. The Awara mattress is not a certified organic product, and not listed on the GOTS public database. The Awara mattress is also not a Greenguard Gold certified product, which tests for low emissions, nor does it carry MADE SAFE® certification on the entirety of the finished product.
Avocado is a Global Organic Textile Standard certified mattress, made with certified organic materials, in our certified organic factory in Los Angeles. Certified organic mattress brands are listed on the GOTS public database, which is the standard endorsed by the USDA’s National Organic Program.
In addition to our organic certifications, Avocado’s organic latex, wool, and cotton are each STANDARD 100 by OKEO-TEX® certified (19.0.79546, 19.HIN.68466 & 15.HIN.75800, Hohenstein HTTI), and the finished mattress is MADE SAFE® certified. All Avocado certifications are listed on our certifications page.
