NO MEMORY FOAMS
Avocado mattresses do not use memory foams. Memory foams are polyurethane foams with chemicals added to make them "slow to respond" and generally have strong chemical odors and can have long-term health risks due to off-gassing. Some memory foams include known carcinogens, like benzene and naphthalene, while others mix latex, soy, green tea, deodorizers, and fragrances with their memory foams to make them appear and smell more natural.
An Avocado mattress uses natural and organic materials, to include certified organic latex, certified organic wool, and certified organic cotton. Better still, it features an internal, zoned, pressure-point support system. The result is the ideal marriage of gentle cushioning and ergonomic support ... in a green mattress that does not contribute to unhealthy indoor air quality.
100% ORGANIC LATEX
We use 100% GOLS organic certified latex, made from the sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis (rubber) tree, and certified from our manufacturer by the eco-INSTITUT®. It’s both recyclable and biodegradable, as well as mold, mildew and dust mite resistant. And most importantly, it offers gentle, yet firm cushioning that sleeps cool and is extremely durable and resilient.
NO CHEMICAL FLAME RETARDANTS
We do not use chemical flame retardants. Instead, we rely on natural hydrated silica and organic wool as flame retardants, which ensures we meet all safety standards for flammability without the use of chemicals. Chemical flame retardants are known to be toxic, persist in our environment, and accumulate in our bodies. Their use is linked to infertility, birth defects, lower IQ scores, behavioral problems in children, as well as liver, kidney, testicular, and breast cancers.
RELYING ON HANDWORK, NOT CHEMICAL GLUES
Our mattresses are button-tufted by hand in order to anchor the layers of our mattresses together without the use of chemical adhesives between our comfort layers of organic cotton ticking, organic wool, and organic latex. We use only one water-based, LGA-certified, bonding agent (free from CMR substances) on top of our innerspring support unit, located in the mattress core. This "radically minimal" approach further reduces your chemical exposure and promotes a healthier indoor air quality.
