BEYOND NATURAL:
CERTIFIED ORGANIC
The Eco Organic Mattress is certified to organic standards set by GOTS and recognized under the USDA’s National Organic Program. This is a higher standard than “natural.” It ensures organic farming practices, limits on non-organic substances, ethical business practices, and fair treatment of workers. Our organic, renewable, and regenerative goals are core priorities.
LAB TESTED
FOR YOUR SAFETY
Our OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification applies to the entire mattress, not just the cover or latex. This means that every component of our organic mattress has been lab-tested for harmful levels of toxic substances. Avocado is the first innerspring mattress in America to meet this lab-based safety standard for the full product.

Look Inside
COMFORT FEEL
With a balanced medium feel, our Eco Organic Mattress is ideal for side, back, and stomach sleepers. Unlike memory foam, organic latex is naturally buoyant: it responds immediately to movement rather than trapping you in place. Combined with up to 1,000 independently wrapped innerspring coils that flex and contour to your body, it delivers targeted pressure relief without sacrificing support. Should you ever want a plusher feel? Our Eco Organic Mattress Topper lets you customize the comfort to your preference.
GOLS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC DUNLOP LATEX
Our GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex (CU863637) is sourced from co-owned farmers' societies and processing facilities in India and Guatemala, as well as from Sri Lanka, and is certified under the USDA's National Organic Program and FSC® (FSC-C156318). It's made with ≥95% certified organic latex content, the highest standard achievable. Dunlop latex is naturally antimicrobial, features an open-cell structure that sleeps cooler than memory foam, and is more durable than polyurethane-based foams. The Eco Organic Mattress uses one seamless layer: a 2-inch comfort layer (D65 / 14–19 ILD, soft). Additional certifications include the eco-INSTITUT® label (119-34212-001).
GOTS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL
The benefits of wool's complex natural structure are many: it wicks away moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as an all-natural fire barrier. It's breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp — at 27 microns, fine enough to feel soft and flexible against skin — gives it bounce, body, and soft support. And it's non-allergenic (ideal for those with allergies to feather, down, or synthetic bedding) and a renewable resource.
At Avocado, we add a layer of pure, naturally crimped organic wool (CU 863637) — 1 ounce per square foot — sourced from free-grazing Gaddi sheep across the Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, under the organic cotton ticking in every mattress. We never blend rayon, polyester, or flame-retardant chemicals with our wool. The Avocado Eco Organic Mattress contains RWS-certified wool (CU 863637). Vegan? Explore our Avocado Vegan Mattress.
GOTS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
Our soft and breathable organic cotton cover (CU863637) is woven in a soft, natural color and quilted over a generous layer of organic wool — the same wool that serves as a natural fire barrier, eliminating the need for chemical flame retardants. The finished fabric is 97% organic cotton and 3% elastane; the elastane is used solely for functional stretch to enhance durability and longevity, and is approved under GOTS standards. A thin, non-woven backing layer secures natural fibers and prevents migration through the outer cotton: a functional accessory approved under GOTS standards
INNERSPRING UNIT
We use up to 1,000 8-inch individually wrapped coils. Made in our manufacturing facility, our border coils are 16-gauge, while the interior zone coils are 14-gauge for enhanced durability. Encased in food-grade, non-woven polypropylene fabric — a petroleum-derived functional accessory approved under GOTS where no certified organic alternative currently meets the structural and durability requirements of an innerspring system. These springs float independently to improve airflow, support, and spinal alignment. The coils are assembled using a safe, environmentally conscious adhesive composed of tested components: Waxes (CAS 8002-74-2), Resin (CAS 8050-26-8), Antioxidant (CAS 6683-19-8), and EVA Polymer (CAS 24937-78-8). Made from heat-treated and stress-relieved recycled steel, these coils provide firm edge support and help relieve pressure points. The finished innerspring unit meets OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, EWG Verified®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and UL® Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verification standards.
PERIMETER FASTENED WITH RINGS
Most mattresses rely on chemical adhesives to bind their layers together — a shortcut that contributes to off-gassing and compromises indoor air quality. We use simple, durable hog rings made from recycled steel instead: metal fasteners that hold every layer firmly in place for the life of the mattress, without introducing adhesives between the materials closest to where you sleep. Steel hog rings are approved under GOTS as a functional accessory.
NO FLAME RETARDANTS
Most mattresses meet federal flammability standards with chemical flame retardants — substances linked to hormone disruption, developmental harm, and long-term indoor air pollution. We don't use them. Our Eco Organic Mattress relies entirely on organic wool, a naturally fire-resistant fiber that chars rather than burns — meeting the same federal standard without a single synthetic chemical. A natural, renewable fiber: better for you and the planet.
Tested for PFAS
PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals used in various industries worldwide. Known for their persistence in the environment and in the human body, they are often referred to as "forever chemicals." At Avocado, we're committed to ensuring our products are free from harmful levels of PFAS. Our mattresses have been rigorously tested using advanced techniques such as Liquid Chromatographic/Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS/MS) analysis and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis for 320 PFAS substances. This testing method is superior to generic organic fluorine screening tests, which can often be inaccurate and fail to detect specific PFAS compounds. Test results indicate that our mattress materials contain no detectable amounts of PFAS. Read our PFAS test results.
CLIMATE LABEL CERTIFIED
Climate Label Certified since 2019 — annually measuring and independently verifying Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across our entire business, with a registered reduction plan. Since 2021, we've achieved a verified 48% absolute reduction in emissions — driven by replacing petroleum-derived materials with certified organic alternatives at the core of every mattress. The emissions those inputs would have generated never enter the system. That's not compensation. That's elimination.
PROJECT ZERO WASTE
In 2025, Avocado achieved an 88% landfill diversion rate across our Los Angeles manufacturing and distribution facilities, independently validated by UL Solutions under the UL 2799 Environmental Claim Validation program. That means only 12% of our manufacturing waste goes to landfill — the rest is recycled, composted, reused, or donated. We aren't done yet. Our target is 90% diversion (UL Silver certification) by the end of 2026, with a longer-term goal of Gold at 95% or above. Read more about Project Zero Waste.
EXPANDED PAPER WRAP PACKAGING
The Eco Organic Mattress ships in a rectangular box, wrapped and rolled in 100% recycled kraft paper — eliminating up to 30 feet of single-use plastic per mattress. The paper is curbside recyclable and home-compostable. Avocado is among the first mattress brands in America to make this switch, and it is now applied to 90% of our mattresses.
10-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

The Organic & Non-Toxic Certifications That Matter
No single certification catches everything. Each standard below tests for different substances, through different methodologies, and against different exposure pathways — harmful chemical inputs, toxic substances, health and ecosystem hazards, indoor air emissions, and ingredient transparency. Together, they form a compounding system of verification designed so that fewer gaps go unchecked. Avocado is certified against all five simultaneously.
GOTS Certified Organic Mattress (CU 863637)
• Certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard — the international gold standard.

• If the whole mattress is not GOTS certified and listed in the public database, it is not organic.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class I (24.HUS.86422)
• Every component is independently tested for harmful substances.
• The most stringent standard, where all components are lab tested.
• Applies to the complete mattress, ensuring safer materials from top to bottom.
EWG Verified®
• Among the most trusted health and safety certifications.

• One of the strictest nontoxic standards for a finished consumer product.
GREENGUARD Gold®
• Certified for low chemical emissions and safer indoor air quality.
• Ideal for families, sensitive sleepers, and chemical-conscious households.
LAW LABEL
A law label is a legally required tag or label on new mattresses describing interior filling materials. Few companies will share this information before your purchase. We believe differently. Here's what the legal tag on the Eco Organic Mattress says: Made with internal materials (based on weight) consisting of Latex Foam Rubber Pad (91%) and Wool Fiber (9%), plus a 100% Organic Cotton Cover. Note: NO polyurethane foams, NO memory foams, NO synthetic foams, NO latex blends, NO chemical adhesives between the comfort layers, and NO chemical flame retardants are used! Read Our Law Labels.
