ORGANIC WITHOUT THE PREMIUM
YES, AN AFFORDABLE MATTRESS CAN BE CERTIFIED ORGANIC!
Most brands treat organic as a premium tier — one certified model floated above a lineup built from the materials they claim to avoid. We don't. The Eco Organic carries the same finished-product organic certification and the same five-standard safety stack as mattresses that cost far more, just with a more straightforward build. That value hasn't gone unnoticed: TODAY named it Best Value Mattress in its 2026 Sleep Awards, Forbes ranked it the #1 mattress for teens, and Architectural Digest called it a best organic mattress. Few brands, if any, match this combination of organic and nontoxic verification at any price, let alone this one.
FROM OUR FARMS TO YOUR MATTRESS
The reason it costs less is structural, not a compromise. Avocado is one of the most vertically integrated mattress companies in America — we own our factories, run our own ethical wool and latex farms, and craft our own innersprings from recycled steel. By owning the supply chain instead of paying middlemen at every step, we can offer a finished-product GOTS-certified organic mattress at a price the category almost never sees.
MEDIUM FIRMNESS,
THE MOST POPULAR FEEL
Medium is the most popular feel for a reason: it's the balance point between plush softness and solid support, the one that works for the widest range of sleepers. You get a buoyant lift that cradles pressure points without letting your hips sink, keeping your spine aligned whether you're on your back, your side, or moving between the two. It's the safe choice when you're not sure what you want, and the right choice for most people who are.
DUAL-GAUGE COILS,
BUILT IN-HOUSE
Beneath the comfort layers sits a coil unit we manufacture ourselves — up to 1,024 individually wrapped, 8-inch recycled-steel coils. Because each coil is fabric-encased and flexes on its own, the mattress contours where you need it and stays supportive where you don't, with far less motion transfer than a connected coil grid. Two wire gauges do the work: firmer 14-gauge field coils for support and reinforced 15-gauge coils along the perimeter for consistent edge support.
BREATHES INSTEAD
OF TRAPPING HEAT
Cooling here comes from materials, not chemical treatments. Organic wool wicks moisture and buffers temperature swings — warm when it's cold, cool when it's warm. Organic latex has an open-cell structure that breathes instead of trapping heat the way foam does. And because the coils are individually wrapped, the support layer is mostly open space, so air moves freely all night. No gels, no "cooling" coatings — just fibers and airflow doing the work.
RESPONSIVE HYBRID SUPPORT
Latex and coils work together to create a buoyant surface that adapts as you move through the night. Instead of sinking the way you do on memory foam, you stay supported on top of the mattress—easy to turn, reposition, and settle back into sleep. And because every coil is individually wrapped, each responds only to the pressure directly above it, so when your partner shifts, you feel far less of it than you would on a connected coil unit.
BEYOND NATURAL:
CERTIFIED ORGANIC
"Natural" is the most common word in mattress marketing ... and the least regulated. No federal agency defines it, and no one audits it. "Certified organic" is different. Our Eco Organic is GOTS-certified at the finished-product level — the whole assembled mattress, not just one material — under a standard recognized by the USDA's National Organic Program. That certification verifies organic farming, strict limits on non-organic inputs, and fair, ethical treatment of workers across the supply chain. If a mattress isn't finished-product certified and listed in the public GOTS database, it isn't truly organic.
LAB TESTED
FOR YOUR SAFETY
Our OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Class I certification (24.HUS.86422) covers the entire mattress — every component lab-tested against more than 1,000 substances known or suspected to harm human health, not just the cover or the latex. Class I is the standard's most stringent tier, originally written for products made for babies and toddlers; we hold our adult mattress to it because a material safe enough for an infant is safe enough for anyone. Avocado is the first U.S. mattress brand to earn Class I across every mattress it makes (2026).
SAFER EMISSIONS,
HEALTHIER AIR
Our Eco Organic Mattress is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low emissions and Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verified by UL. GREENGUARD Gold tests against strict limits on VOCs — the off-gassing compounds many new mattresses release into a bedroom — at thresholds set for children's rooms and sensitive individuals. You spend a third of your life breathing whatever your mattress is made of. We test for it so you don't have to wonder.

Look Inside: Nothing to Hide
This is the whole mattress. No polyurethane foam, no fiberglass, nothing hidden. See: What's Inside an Avocado Mattress: Layer-by-Layer Construction.

IS MEDIUM RIGHT FOR YOU?
Not sure medium is your feel? Here's how to choose. Most sleepers — back, combination, and hot sleepers, couples, and most body types — are happiest on the standard medium. If you're a side sleeper who wants more cushioning, our Eco Organic Topper softens the surface without changing the support beneath. Want to pick your exact firmness, or need zoned support and a taller build? The Green Mattress offers five feels and a patented seven-zone coil system. Prefer no animal materials? Our Vegan Mattress swaps wool for organic cotton. And for a child's room, bunk, or trundle, there's the lower-profile Eco Organic Kids Mattress.
GOLS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC DUNLOP LATEX
Our GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex is sourced from co-owned farmer societies and processing facilities in India, Guatemala, and Sri Lanka, and processed in GOLS-certified organic facilities operating under the USDA's National Organic Program. Made with ≥95% certified organic content — GOLS's highest tier — it's naturally antimicrobial, breathes through an open-cell structure that sleeps cooler than memory foam, and outlasts petroleum-based foams. The Eco Organic uses a single seamless 2-inch comfort layer (D65 / 14–19 ILD, soft). (GOLS/GOTS: CU863637 · FSC®: FSC-C156318 · eco-INSTITUT®: 119-34212-001)
CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL
Wool's complex natural structure does remarkable work: it wicks moisture, resists odor, and acts as an all-natural fire barrier — breathable, warm or cool as you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support, and it's naturally resistant to dust mites and mold, a good fit for anyone sensitive to feather, down, or synthetic bedding.
We add a layer of pure, naturally crimped organic wool — 1 ounce per square foot — beneath the organic cotton ticking, sourced from free-grazing Gaddi sheep across the Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. We never blend rayon, polyester, or flame-retardant chemicals with it. Our wool is certified organic under GOTS (CU 863637) and to the Responsible Wool Standard. Vegan? Explore our Avocado Vegan Mattress.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
Our soft, breathable organic cotton cover (CU863637) is woven in a natural, undyed color and quilted over a generous layer of organic wool — the same wool that serves as a natural fire barrier, eliminating the need for chemical flame retardants. The finished fabric is 97% organic cotton and 3% elastane, used solely for the functional stretch that helps the cover hold its shape over years of use; it's approved as a functional accessory under GOTS. A thin, non-woven backing keeps the natural fibers from migrating through the outer cotton, another accessory GOTS permits where no organic alternative meets the need.
INNERSPRING UNIT
The Eco Organic uses up to 1,024 individually wrapped, 8-inch coils in a single support unit built in our own facility. Two wire gauges do the work: 14-gauge (0.080") field coils across the sleep surface for support and durability, with reinforced 15-gauge (0.071") coils along both long edges for consistent edge support. Each coil is encased in food-grade, non-woven polypropylene — a petroleum-derived functional accessory GOTS permits where no certified organic material meets the structural demands of an innerspring — so the springs float independently, improving airflow, support, and spinal alignment. The coils are heat-treated and stress-relieved from recycled steel, and assembled with an environmentally conscious adhesive of tested components: Waxes (CAS 8002-74-2), Resin (CAS 8050-26-8), Antioxidant (CAS 6683-19-8), and EVA Polymer (CAS 24937-78-8). The finished unit meets OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, EWG Verified®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and UL® Formaldehyde-Free — the same finished-product standards as the whole mattress.
PERIMETER FASTENED WITH RINGS
Most mattresses glue their comfort layers together — a shortcut that adds to off-gassing and lingers in the air you breathe. We don't bond our layers with adhesives. Instead, durable recycled-steel hog rings fasten the layers mechanically, holding everything firmly in place for the life of the mattress without introducing glues between the materials closest to you. Steel hog rings are approved under GOTS as a functional accessory.
NO FLAME RETARDANTS
Most mattresses pass federal flammability standards using chemical flame retardants — substances linked to hormone disruption, developmental harm, and lingering indoor air pollution. We don't use them, and we don't use fiberglass. Our Eco Organic relies on organic wool, a naturally fire-resistant fiber that chars instead of burning, to meet the same federal standard without a single synthetic chemical.
Tested for PFAS: None Detected
PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — are synthetic chemicals used industry-wide for waterproofing, stain resistance, and flame retardancy. They persist in the environment and the human body, which is why they're called "forever chemicals." We don't use chemical treatments or chemical flame retardants, and we validate that claim with lab testing.
Our 2026 independent third-party program screens for 679 individual PFAS substances — up from 320 in 2024 — across every component of the Eco Organic Mattress: organic cotton, organic wool, organic latex, and the recycled-steel innerspring unit. Testing was performed by Intertek, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory, using targeted LC/MS/MS and GC-MS methods at a detection limit of 10 parts per billion for most substances. The result across every component tested: none detected.
Some industry certifications screen a smaller panel — around 80 compounds — and rely on a 50-ppm total-fluorine threshold, roughly 5,000 times less sensitive than our per-substance limit, and don't publish the underlying results. Avocado publishes the full Intertek reports, substance by substance and component by component, because transparency builds trust. Read our PFAS testing results from 2024 and 2026.
CLIMATE LABEL CERTIFIED
Climate Label Certified since 2019 — annually measuring and independently verifying Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across our entire business, with a registered reduction plan. Since 2021, we've achieved a verified 48% absolute reduction in emissions — driven by replacing petroleum-derived materials with certified organic alternatives at the core of every mattress. The emissions those inputs would have generated never enter the system. That's not compensation. That's elimination.
PROJECT ZERO WASTE
In 2025, Avocado achieved an 88% landfill diversion rate across our manufacturing and distribution facilities — independently validated by UL Solutions under the UL 2799 Environmental Claim Validation program. Only 12% of our facility waste reaches a landfill; the rest is recycled, composted, reused, or donated. We aren't done: our target is 90% diversion (UL Silver) by the end of 2026, and 95% or above (UL Gold) beyond that. Read more about Project Zero Waste.
EXPANDED PAPER WRAP PACKAGING
Your Eco Organic ships wrapped and rolled in 100% recycled kraft paper instead of plastic, eliminating up to 30 feet of single-use film per mattress. The paper is curbside recyclable and home-compostable. Avocado is among the first mattress brands in America to make the switch, now on 90% of the mattresses we ship.
10-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
The Eco Organic is covered by a 10-year limited warranty — a focused term that's part of how we keep it our most affordable certified organic mattress. All foundations, bunkie boards, bed frames, and adjustable bases sold by Avocado are designed to meet the structural support requirements of this warranty when used correctly and unaltered. Bases purchased from third-party vendors must meet the minimum structural requirements outlined in our warranty. Read Our Warranty.
100-NIGHT SLEEP TRIAL
Your 100-Night Sleep Trial begins after you receive your mattress and is limited to one mattress per household, with a minimum of 30 days. Read our refund policy terms & conditions. Shipping and in-home delivery & setup fees are non-refundable. Returned mattresses incur a $99 fee. The mattress box must be opened within 30 days of receipt. UNBOXING YOUR MATTRESS
Unboxing your mattress is easy, but it can be heavy. Be sure to recycle all packaging materials. You can sleep on your mattress immediately.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
Your Eco Organic is built to last with simple care. Rotate it head-to-foot every three to six months, so it wears evenly — because the head and foot are identical, rotating extends the life of the comfort layers. Use a mattress protector to guard against spills and everyday wear. Place it on a supportive base; if your foundation uses slats, they must be at least 2.5 inches wide and no more than 5 inches apart to prevent sagging over time and to keep your warranty valid. Spot-clean only, with a little mild detergent and cold water — never soak it or use harsh chemicals. A faint natural scent from the wool and latex is normal at first and fades within a few days of airing out.
GOOD HOUSEKEEPING LIMITED WARRANTY
Separate from Avocado's 10-year warranty, the Good Housekeeping Seal carries its own guarantee: if any product bearing the Good Housekeeping Limited Warranty Seal proves defective within two years of its first sale to a consumer by an authorized retailer, Good Housekeeping will refund the purchase price or $2,000, whichever is less — or, at its discretion, repair or replace the product.
The Organic & Non-Toxic Certifications That Matter
No single certification catches everything. Each standard below tests for different substances, through different methodologies, and against different exposure pathways — harmful chemical inputs, toxic substances, health and ecosystem hazards, indoor air emissions, added formaldehyde, and ingredient transparency. Together, they form a compounding system of verification designed so that fewer gaps go unchecked. Six finished-product certifications: GOTS plus five independent nontoxic standards — and Avocado is certified against all six simultaneously.
GOTS Certified Organic Mattress (CU 863637)
- Certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard — the international gold standard.
- Certification applies to the entire finished mattress, not just materials.
- If the whole mattress is not GOTS certified and listed in the public database, it is not organic.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class I (24.HUS.86422)
- Every component is independently lab-tested for harmful substances.
- Class I is the strictest tier — the one written for products used by babies and toddlers.
- Applies to the complete mattress, ensuring safer materials from top to bottom.
EWG Verified®
- Requires full ingredient disclosure and meeting EWG’s strictest health criteria.
- Verifies the finished mattress, not just a single component.
MADE SAFE® Certified
- Screened against thousands of substances — including carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and reproductive toxins.
- One of the strictest nontoxic standards for a finished consumer product.
GREENGUARD® Gold
- Certified for low chemical emissions and safer indoor air quality.
- Ideal for families, sensitive sleepers, and chemical-conscious households.
UL® Formaldehyde-Free
- Independently verified to contain no added formaldehyde or formaldehyde precursors.
- Validated by UL through laboratory testing, not manufacturer claim.
LAW LABEL
A law label is a legally required tag describing the interior filling materials of a mattress. Few companies share it before purchase. At Avocado, we always have. Inside every Avocado Eco Organic Mattress: a latex foam rubber pad and wool fiber over a coil spring unit, with a cover of 97% organic cotton and 3% elastane. Assembled in the USA with imported materials in Fullerton, California (Reg. No. CA 46096). Not inside: polyurethane foam, memory foam, adhesives between comfort layers, chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, or PFAS. Meets the federal open-flame flammability standard (16 CFR Part 1633) and is intended to be used without a foundation. Read the law label for every Avocado product.
