WHY ORGANIC MATTERS
Our Organic Waterproof Crib Protector Pad is made with GOTS-certified organic cotton on both sides. Why does that matter? GOTS is one of the strictest standards in textiles. Our cotton is grown in India without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and is held to rigorous environmental and social criteria at every stage of processing. The result is a finish that feels soft and luxurious, breathes easily, and wicks away moisture.
SIMPLE CARE
We make our Organic Waterproof Crib Protector Pad intentionally big because it will shrink to size as soon as you wash it. This may take a couple cycles. When washing, simply spot clean or machine wash using an eco-conscious laundry detergent. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on low or just air it out on the line until completely dry.

Construction
Our Organic Waterproof Crib Mattress Protector and fitted skirt are made with GOTS-certified organic cotton (95%) and a polyurethane waterproofing layer (5%) in the middle. They are manufactured for Avocado in Pakistan in a GOTS & GOLS organic certified factory. These are asthma and allergy-friendly Materials.
With certified organic cotton inside and out, our protector is free of the synthetic finishes and chemical treatments that can bother sensitive sleepers. It's a protective pad, though not a fully encased mattress seal or an allergen barrier.
Performance Expectations
Our waterproof protector relies on two layers of organic cotton to absorb liquids and a thin, GOTS-approved polyurethane membrane in the middle that serves as the waterproof barrier. Even so, all polyurethane-based membranes tend to weaken over time, and their performance inevitably declines. This can result from UV radiation, aging, flexing, high or low temperatures, punctures, and numerous washing cycles. Our waterproof protector represents the best possible performance while being a GOTS-certified organic product. But we do not warrant that it is foolproof. No protector can claim that. It is, however, great for life's little accidents, as the hundreds of customer reviews attest. (Pro tip: Some parents use two protectors at once, so they can remove the outer protector in case of an accident for cleaning.) If you need a thick plastic protector with a zipper enclosure, we don’t sell them because we prefer certified organic products over plastic.

For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS organic certified cotton in a soft, natural color. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. GREENGUARD Gold is certified for low emissions and is Formaldehyde-Free, certified by UL Environment. PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — are synthetic chemicals used industry-wide for waterproofing, stain resistance, and flame retardancy. They persist in the environment and the human body, which is why they're called "forever chemicals." We don't use chemical treatments or chemical flame retardants, and we validate that claim with lab testing.
Our 2026 independent third-party program covers 679 individual PFAS substances — up from 320 in 2024 — across our organic cotton, organic wool, organic latex, crib mattress core, and every component of our Waterproof Mattress Protector (which has the same construction as our Crib Mattress Waterproof Protector). Testing was performed by Intertek, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory, using targeted LC/MS/MS and GC-MS methods at a detection limit of 10 parts per billion for most substances. The result across every component tested: none detected.
Some industry certifications screen a smaller panel — around 80 compounds — and rely on a 50-ppm total-fluorine threshold, roughly 5,000 times less sensitive than our per-substance limit, and don't publish the underlying results. Care Instructions
Please wash your Organic Waterproof Crib Protector before use with an eco-conscious laundry detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry low or hang on the line until completely dry. Getting the protector to the proper size may take up to three washes. We made them intentionally big since they are 100% cotton and will shrink.
