17 LAYERS OF LUXURY

The Luxury Organic Mattress is built for sleepers who want real plushness without compromising their organic, non-toxic standards. Choose Medium for a cushioned surface with a firmer feel, Plush for a pillow-top that cradles shoulders and hips, or Ultra Plush for the deepest sink we make in this line. Underneath, our patented seven-zone coil system keeps you supported, so the softness doesn’t come at the cost of support. Compared with our Green Mattress line, which spans every feel from Extra Firm to Ultra Plush, the Luxury adds more of what makes a bed feel indulgent: natural alpaca and silk in the cushioning, deeper comfort layers, and, on the Plush and Ultra Plush, an attached top over a second coil layer.

WHERE LUXURY COMES FROM

Avocado grows and processes many of the materials in this mattress, and we source the rest with the same scrutiny. Up to 4 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex comes from our own farms and organic-certified processing facilities in India and Guatemala. Organic wool from our farms in the Himalayas, certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) for animal welfare and cleaned mechanically without chemicals in our facility in India, regulates temperature and acts as a natural fire barrier. Two inches of natural alpaca fiber from the Netherlands add soft, springy loft, and natural silk is blended into the cushioning layers. An organic hemp pad provides firm support at the base; the coils are made from recycled steel, and organic cotton, including canvas from South Carolina, wraps it all together. Every material has a job, and the specs below list each one.

NATURAL AS LOVE

Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress Natural as Love

Plush and supportive Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress

PLUSH AND SUPPORTIVE? OH YES!

Soft comfort layers only work if something solid holds you up underneath. In the Luxury Organic Mattress, that job belongs to our patented coil system, designed and made by Avocado. The 8-inch base unit has up to 1,379 individually wrapped coils made from recycled steel, arranged in seven zones. Three interior zones (head and shoulders, hips and torso, and legs) vary the wire gauge by body region, and four reinforced perimeter zones support the edges on every side. Each coil moves on its own, which helps limit motion transfer between partners. The Plush and Ultra Plush add a 1-inch layer of up to 1,221 micro-coils just below the comfort layers, for up to 2,590 coils in total, so the surface contours closely to your body while the base keeps you supported.

Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress is needle tufted by hand

NEEDLE TUFTED
BY HAND

The white rosettes on the surface aren’t decoration. Each one marks a point where our craftspeople pull organic cotton tape through the entire mattress with a long steel needle, tying the layers together in up to 32 places, depending on size. Those ties do the job glue does in most mattresses, so the comfort layers stay in place without adhesives. Tufting also keeps the layers from shifting over years of use. The rosettes themselves are made from organic wool sourced in the United States. It’s slow, skilled work, and it’s one of the clearest signs of how this mattress is built.

COMPLETE YOUR LUXURY SETUP

Pair with Pure Talalay Luxury Pillows

ADD TWO PURE TALALAY LUXURY PILLOWS

Any of our pillows will work on this mattress, but the Pure Talalay Luxury Pillow was made to match it. It’s filled with FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex, the same buoyant, breathable latex in the Ultra Plush box-top, so your head and neck get the same soft, lifting feel as the rest of your body. It’s plush enough to sink into but springs back so it doesn’t flatten overnight. If you chose the Luxury Organic Mattress for how it feels, this pillow carries that feel all the way up.

Pair with an Adjustable Base

ADD AN ADJUSTABLE OR MATCHING BASE

All three feels of the Luxury Organic Mattress work on our Eco Plus Adjustable Base. The coils and latex flex with the base, so the mattress follows it smoothly as you raise your head or feet, then settles back flat. If you’d rather keep things simple, our matching foundation gives the mattress a solid, even base, whether it sits on your own bed frame or on metal rails with a headboard.

WATCH THE POWER BASE

Pair with Avocado Malibu Platform Bed Frame

ADD OUR LOW
PLATFORM BED

At 13.25 to 15 inches tall, the Luxury Organic Mattress pairs well with a low platform bed, which keeps the overall height comfortable while letting the mattress be the centerpiece. Our Malibu Platform Bed Frame with headboard supports the mattress directly, with no separate base needed. We build it in our FSC®-certified factory in Los Angeles (FSC-C156138).

Pair with Avocado Deep Pocket Organic Sheets

ADD SOFT ORGANIC
COTTON SHEETS

At up to 15 inches tall, the Luxury Organic Mattress needs deep-pocket sheets that stay put. Our Organic Cotton Sheets are cut to fit, so they won’t pop off the corners. To keep the mattress clean and dry for years, add our breathable Organic Waterproof Mattress Protector.

Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress is certified non-toxic

INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED, INSIDE AND OUT

The finished Luxury Organic Mattress is MADE SAFE® Certified, which means it has been screened against thousands of substances known to harm human health, aquatic life, and wildlife, including chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, and PFAS “forever” chemicals. It’s also EWG VERIFIED®, with every ingredient publicly disclosed and screened against EWG’s health criteria. For the air in your bedroom, it’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified to strict chemical emission limits set for bedrooms and children’s rooms, and its Formaldehyde-Free claim is independently validated by UL Solutions, confirming no added formaldehyde.

COMFORT FEEL

Medium (Tight-Top): For back, stomach, and combination sleepers who want a cushioned surface with a firmer feel. Our most popular feel. Plush (Pillow-Top): For side, back, and combination sleepers who want more contouring and pressure relief than a firm surface gives. Ultra Plush (Box-Top): For side sleepers and lighter-weight sleepers who want deep pressure relief at the shoulders and hips and the most sink.

These names follow Avocado’s five-step feel scale (Extra Firm, Firm, Medium, Plush, and Ultra Plush), which we use across every mattress instead of a 1-to-10 firmness number. If you knew these models by their construction names, Tight-Top is now Medium, Pillow-Top is Plush, and Box-Top is Ultra Plush. How to choose the right firmness.

Top Panel

Layer 1: Fabric cover of organic cotton (97%) and elastane (3%). The elastane adds functional stretch for durability and is within GOTS standards. Layer 2: Organic wool (325g), ethically sourced from our farms in the Himalayas and mechanically cleaned without chemicals in our facility in India. Our wool is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), which covers sheep welfare and the land they graze. Layer 3: 2 inches of natural alpaca fiber (500g), ethically sourced from the Netherlands. Layer 4: A second layer of our organic wool from India. Layer 5: Organic cotton canvas (375g/12oz) sourced from South Carolina.

Gusset

Layer 6: Plush: 2 inches of soft, GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex (D65/14–19 ILD), made with at least 95% certified organic latex and also FSC®-certified (FSC-C156318). Sourced from our farms and organic-certified processing facilities in India and Guatemala. Ultra Plush: 3 inches of soft, FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex in the box-top. Layer 7: A soft blend of organic cotton, organic wool, and natural silk (500g). Layer 8: A second layer of organic cotton canvas (375g).

Core & Base

Layer 9: A 1-inch micro-coil comfort layer with up to 1,221 individually wrapped springs (Plush and Ultra Plush only). It sits just below the comfort layers to add contouring, resist sagging and “roll-together,” and isolate motion. The springs are encased in a non-woven fabric and assembled with a tested hot-melt adhesive (Waxes: CAS 8002-74-2, Resin: CAS 8050-26-8, Antioxidant: CAS 6683-19-8, EVA Polymer: CAS 24937-78-8). Layer 10: A soft blend of organic wool, organic cotton, and natural silk (500g, Plush only). Layer 11: 2 inches of soft, GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex (D65/14–19 ILD), made with at least 95% certified organic latex and also FSC®-certified (FSC-C156318). Sourced from our farms and organic-certified processing facilities in India and Guatemala. Layer 12: Our patented 8-inch coil system, designed and made by Avocado, with up to 1,379 individually wrapped coils made from recycled steel. The coils sit in seven zones. Three interior zones (head and shoulders, hips and torso, and legs) vary the wire gauge by body region, and four reinforced perimeter zones support the edges on every side. Each coil moves independently in a food-grade, non-woven polypropylene encasing and is assembled with the same tested hot-melt adhesive. Layer 13: An organic hemp pad (450g) for firm support.

Bottom, Side Panels & Border

Layer 14: Fabric cover of organic cotton (97%) and elastane (3%), 375g. The elastane adds functional stretch for durability and is within GOTS standards. Layer 15: Needle-punched organic wool sourced from our farms in India. Layer 16: Breathable organic cotton jersey (95g) that helps hold the organic latex in place. Layer 17: A soft blend of organic cotton, organic wool, and natural silk (500g).

Handles, Tufts & Details

The 10-inch reinforced handles are made of organic cotton (97%) and elastane (3%), in two layers for strength (450g and 334g). The elastane adds functional stretch for durability and is within GOTS standards. We attach rosettes of organic wool, sourced from the United States, to woven organic cotton tape. Instead of glue, we hold the comfort layers together by hand-tufting with steel needles in up to 32 locations, depending on size. Our closing tape is woven from organic cotton (450g) sourced from Canada. Recyclable aluminum bull-hook staples bind the interior perimeter to the latex instead of glue. Handles are for rotating the mattress only. Do not carry or move the mattress by its handles.

Add an Adjustable Base

Your Luxury Organic Mattress works flat. It just doesn’t have to. The Avocado Adjustable Bases raise your head and feet to the angle you’re most comfortable at, whether that’s sitting up to read, settling into the zero-gravity position, or lying perfectly flat. Many adjustable bases are bare black steel meant to stay out of sight. Ours is designed to be seen: clean lines, real presence, and a cover of 100% organic cotton canvas. You picked your mattress for what’s in it. Pick your base the same way.

Climate Label Certified

Avocado has been certified by The Climate Label every year since 2019. Each year we measure our full cradle-to-customer emissions, invest in reducing them at the source, and fund climate solutions beyond our own operations. We also know no single company can solve climate change on its own; it takes systemic change. That’s why, through our partnerships with Ceres and the American Sustainable Business Network, we advocate for state and federal policies that support equitable solutions to the climate crisis.

No Flame Retardants

No chemical flame retardants are used in the Luxury Organic Mattress. It meets federal flammability standards using organic wool, a natural flame barrier, along with densely packed natural fibers. There are no chemical treatments, no treated rayon blends, and no fiberglass fire socks.

Tested for PFAS: None Detected

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals used across the industry for waterproofing, stain resistance, and flame retardancy. They persist in the environment and in the human body, which is why they’re called “forever chemicals.” We don’t use chemical treatments or chemical flame retardants, and the finished Luxury Organic Mattress is MADE SAFE® Certified, a standard that prohibits PFAS. We also test our core materials ourselves.

Our 2026 independent testing program covers 679 individual PFAS substances, up from 320 in 2024. For this mattress, that includes the organic cotton, organic wool, and organic Dunlop latex. Testing was performed by Intertek, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory, using targeted LC/MS/MS and GC-MS methods at a detection limit of 10 parts per billion for most substances. Across every material tested, the result was the same: none detected.

Some industry certifications screen a smaller panel of around 80 compounds and rely on a 50-ppm total-fluorine threshold, roughly 5,000 times less sensitive than our per-substance limit, without publishing the underlying results. We publish the full Intertek reports, substance by substance and material by material. Read our 2024 and 2026 PFAS test results.

25-Year Limited Warranty

Years 1–10: Full coverage, non-prorated. Years 11–25: Limited coverage, prorated.

A plush mattress is designed to conform to your body, and because most people sleep in the same spot every night, the natural comfort layers gradually compress there. In the Plush and Ultra Plush, this can create a natural body impression of up to 2 inches. That’s normal settling, not sagging or a defect. Rotating the mattress regularly helps it wear evenly and minimizes body impressions. How to rotate your mattress. Read our full warranty.

1-Year Sleep Trial Policy

Your 1-Year Sleep Trial begins after you receive your mattress and is limited to one mattress per household, with a minimum of 30 days. Read our refund policy terms & conditions. Shipping and in-home delivery & setup fees are non-refundable. Returned mattresses incur a $99 fee. The mattress box must be opened within 30 days of receipt. Law Label

A law label is the legally required tag listing a mattress’s interior filling materials. Many companies don’t share it until after you buy. We share ours upfront. Inside every Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress: natural latex foam rubber, blended fiber pads, organic wool, alpaca, silk, hemp, and individually wrapped coil spring units, with a fabric cover of organic cotton and elastane (for stretch and recovery in the knit cover). Assembled in Fullerton, California, with domestic and imported materials. Not inside the Luxury Organic Mattress: polyurethane foam, memory foam, adhesives between comfort layers, chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, or added PFAS. Read the law label for every Avocado product.

Luxury Organic Mattress FAQ

The Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress is a hybrid with up to 17 layers of organic and natural materials over our patented coil system. The comfort layers include GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, organic wool (RWS-certified for animal welfare), natural alpaca fiber, natural silk, organic hemp and organic cotton, and the Ultra Plush adds a box-top of FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex. Underneath is an 8-inch, seven-zone unit of individually wrapped recycled steel coils, and the Plush and Ultra Plush add a 1-inch micro-coil layer. The comfort layers are hand-tufted together instead of glued. See what's inside, layer by layer.
All three share the same core. Medium (13.25 inches) has a tight top for a cushioned surface with a firmer feel. Plush (14 inches) adds an attached pillow-top with 2 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex for more pressure relief. Ultra Plush (15 inches) adds an attached box-top with 3 inches of FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex for the deepest sink. These names follow Avocado's five-step feel scale: Extra Firm, Firm, Medium, Plush and Ultra Plush. If you knew these models as Tight-Top, Pillow-Top and Box-Top, those are now Medium, Plush and Ultra Plush. See what firmness is right for you.
Plush or Ultra Plush. Side sleepers put most of their weight on the shoulders and hips, and the pillow-top or box-top lets those areas sink in while the zoned coils underneath keep you supported. Choose Plush for balanced contouring, or Ultra Plush if you want the deepest cushioning or are a lighter-weight sleeper.
Choose the Medium. Stomach sleepers generally need a firmer surface so their hips don't sink too far, and the Medium's tight top gives the firmest feel in this line. If you want something firmer still, consider the Avocado Green Mattress in Firm.
The Medium is 13.25 inches, the Plush is 14 inches and the Ultra Plush is 15 inches. Earlier versions were taller: the Plush was 17 inches and the Ultra Plush was 19 inches. Whichever feel you choose, use deep-pocket sheets that fit the mattress height.
Every model sits on our patented 8-inch coil system, designed and made by Avocado, with up to 1,379 individually wrapped recycled steel coils in seven zones. Three interior zones (head and shoulders, hips and torso, and legs) vary the wire gauge by body region, and four reinforced perimeter zones support the edges. The Plush and Ultra Plush add a 1-inch micro-coil layer, for up to 2,590 coils in total in a King (2,117 in a Queen). Exact counts vary by size.
Each coil is individually wrapped and moves on its own, which helps keep one partner's movement from reaching the other. On the Plush and Ultra Plush, the micro-coil layer adds a second layer of independent springs just below the comfort layers, for more motion separation at the sleep surface.
It's built to breathe. The individually wrapped coils leave open channels for air to move through the core, and natural latex is more breathable than memory foam. Organic wool and natural alpaca in the comfort layers wick moisture and help regulate temperature. If you tend to sleep hot, see our tips on how to stay cool all night.
Both are certified organic hybrids made by Avocado. The Luxury Organic Mattress adds natural alpaca fiber and silk to its comfort layers and, on the Plush and Ultra Plush, a micro-coil layer above the base coils, for a deeper, more layered feel. The Avocado Green Mattress comes in more feels, from Extra Firm to Ultra Plush.
It ships flat by freight and is never compressed or roll-packed. In-home delivery and setup is required, starting at $249, with the final fee based on the weight of your order.
Yes. All three feels work on our Eco Plus Adjustable Base. The coils and latex flex with the base as you raise your head or feet, then settle back flat.
The mattress contains no fiberglass, chemical flame retardants, polyurethane foam, memory foam, adhesives between the comfort layers or added PFAS. Organic wool serves as the natural fire barrier, and we publish our open-flame test results. The finished mattress is MADE SAFE® Certified, a standard that prohibits PFAS, and in 2026 an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab tested its organic cotton, organic wool and organic Dunlop latex for 679 individual PFAS substances, and none were detected in those materials. Read our PFAS test results.
The finished mattress is GOTS certified (Control Union, CU 863637), OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 Class I certified, MADE SAFE® Certified, EWG Verified®, GREENGUARD Gold Certified and UL Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verified. Its Dunlop latex is GOLS-certified organic, its Dunlop and Pure Talalay® latex are FSC®-certified, and its wool is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard. It is made by Avocado, a Certified B Corporation®. Verify our certifications.
A plush mattress is designed to conform to your body, so its natural comfort layers gradually compress where you sleep. In the Plush and Ultra Plush, this can create a natural body impression of up to 2 inches, which is normal settling, not sagging or a defect. Rotating the mattress regularly helps it wear evenly. See how to rotate your mattress.
No. The mattress is one-sided, with its comfort layers built on top and its support layers below, so do not flip it. Instead, rotate it head to foot regularly to help it wear evenly. See how to rotate your mattress.
The Luxury Organic Mattress is covered by a 25-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage is full and non-prorated for the first 10 years, then prorated from years 11 through 25.
The latex in this mattress sits beneath layers of organic wool, natural alpaca and an organic cotton cover, so you do not come into direct contact with it. Sensitivities vary, though, so if you have a latex allergy, talk with your doctor before buying.
Yes. Your 1-year sleep trial begins when your mattress arrives, with a minimum of 30 days before a return. It is limited to one mattress per household. Returns carry a $99 fee, and in-home delivery and setup fees are non-refundable. Read our return policy.
