B Corp

BALANCING PURPOSE AND PROFIT

Certified B Corporations balance purpose and profit. They are the gold standard for responsible business, demanding accountability toward a sustainable and inclusive economy. The rigorous certification process provides the highest standard of verified positive impact of a company. Once approved, B Corps are legally required to change their governing documents to consider the result of their decisions on workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Avocado first became a B Corp in May 2020. As part of our continued commitment to the planet and people, we re-certified as a B Corp and took our impact further by certifying at the corporate level, to encompass our entire business scope. Avocado became a B Corp again in 2024, with a high score of 113.9 — well beyond the 80-point minimum threshold.

As a B Corp, we focus on delivering value to stakeholders and understanding impacts beyond revenue.

THE IMPACT OF B CORPS

B Corps wants to redefine what success in business means for society, shifting from a model centered around shareholders — those who profit from a company — to stakeholders — those who are impacted by a company. B Corp measures businesses by whether they are good actors and deliver value to all. This means reckoning with the broader implications of business decisions and understanding their impacts beyond the bottom line. More than 6,400 companies worldwide are now Certified B Corporations.

OUR B IMPACT SCORE

B Corp Best for the World™ winner in 2022

AWARDED FOR RESPONSIBLE PRACTICES + CHARITABLE GIVING

Avocado is proud to be named a 2022 B Corp Best For the World™ company, joining the ranks of brands like Patagonia Works, TOMS, Uncommon Goods, and Aspiration that have earned the award in the past. The distinction acknowledges that out of 6,400 Certified B Corporations worldwide, we are among the top five percent of all B Corp companies in the Community impact category.

Doing the right thing for the environment is part of our DNA at Avocado.

ENVIRONMENT

Our high score in Environment was a result of our commitment to wind and solar energy and our Climate Neutral certification. With Climate Neutral, the entirety of our carbon footprint is measured and verified, from raw material production and shipping to manufacturing and delivery. We reduce where we can and purchase offsets for the balance.

OUR HIGHER STANDARDS

COMMUNITY

We scored highest in Community because of our commitment to 1% for the Planet and our transformative mattress donation program. As members of 1% for the Planet, we donate 1% of all mattress revenue to vetted nonprofits in an effort to address the interrelated issues of climate change, healthy food systems, land management, water resources, pollution, and wildlife diversity. In April 2020, 1% for the Planet honored Avocado with their inaugural Pinnacle Award. In addition, our sustainability team developed a nationwide network of over 1,000 nonprofit partners; as a result, 90% of returned mattresses and nearly 100% of returned pillows are donated.

WORKERS

We scored high points in Workers a result of our competitive wages, from the factory floor throughout the company, as well as extensive employee benefits, which include paid volunteer days and free memberships that encourage mental and physical well-being.
