HANDCRAFTING MATTRESSES SINCE 1987 IN LOS ANGELES
In 2016, Mark Abrials, Jeff D'Andrea, Dan D'Andrea, and Jay Decker set out to do something the mattress industry said couldn't be done at scale — build a genuinely certified organic mattress that mainstream consumers could afford and trust. What they found instead was an industry built on unverifiable claims, self-applied labels, and greenwashing that looked like transparency until you asked for a license number. Most people had no idea what was in their mattresses. Most brands were counting on that. So they built the organic mattress they couldn't find.
But the ambition wasn't just to make a better mattress. It was to change what people sleep on — to make certified organic the expectation, not the exception. To connect the person in the bedroom to the farmer in the field, the factory worker in Los Angeles, and the ecosystems their purchase either protects or doesn't.
To prove that what's better for you and what's better for the planet are not competing priorities. They are the same priority, measured at different points along the same supply chain. In 2018, Avocado merged with Brentwood Home, founded by the Nguyen family, handcrafting mattresses in Los Angeles since 1987. Vy Nguyen, second-generation owner, became CEO of Avocado Green Brands. The manufacturing heritage and the mission finally had the same address.
WHY AVOCADO IS DIFFERENT
Every mattress is certified at the finished-product level, not just the materials inside it.
Handmade in our own GOTS-certified Los Angeles factory with domestic and imported materials, not outsourced to a third-party manufacturer.
The only mattress brand to hold OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, GOTS, and GREENGUARD Gold simultaneously across every mattress.
Radical transparency: we publish what we haven't solved alongside what we have.
A factory that has been handcrafting mattresses since 1987, with the organic standard applied since 2016.
The most comfortable, supportive, and naturally cool mattresses — certified organic — in Ultra-Plush, Plush, Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm, across every price point.
OUR BRAND MISSION: ORGANIC, SAFE, & RESPONSIBLE
Avocado mattresses are designed in Hoboken and handmade in our GOTS-certified factory in Fullerton, California, with domestic and imported certified organic materials. Every mattress holds GOTS finished-product certification — independently audited from farm through manufacturing, not just the materials inside it. Our mission is to be the most trusted source for certified organic mattresses, pillows, and bedding at accessible prices — while holding ourselves to verified environmental, ethical, and social standards across our entire supply chain.
“We built Avocado because we couldn’t find a mattress that was truly certified organic and backed by real transparency.” — Mark Abrials, Co-Founder & Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer
“My family immigrated here in 1981 and opened our California factory in 1987. I took over in 2005 to expand that legacy: making health-conscious, handcrafted products. A mattress is the most intimate thing you own—human health and environmental health are the same goal, measured along one supply chain.” — Vy Nguyen, CEO
Honesty Will Define Us
HANDCRAFTED & COMFORTABLE WILL BE OUR YIN AND YANG
We make handcrafted, certified organic products accessible by selling directly to customers and passing on the savings. Every Avocado mattress comes with a sleep trial of up to 365 nights, a warranty of up to 25 years — because the materials are built to last — easy financing with Affirm®, and optional in-home delivery and setup. Over 44,000 verified reviews — average rating 4.6 out of 5 stars.
OUR MISSION: TO RAISE THE BAR FOR SUSTAINABILITY
We are a Certified B Corporation with an Impact Score of 113.9 — "Best for the World" recognition and nearly double the 80-point certification threshold. We are Climate Label Certified for five consecutive years, with a verified 48% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions since 2021. We donate 1% of mattress revenue to vetted environmental nonprofits through 1% for the Planet — more than $12 million certified since 2017. Our Fullerton facility achieved an 88% landfill diversion rate in 2025, validated by UL Solutions — the only mattress and bedding company to hold this certification. Every year, we publish what we have not yet solved alongside what we have — because accountability without honesty is just marketing.
"When you walk the farms in the Himalayan foothills and meet the shepherd families who've tended these sheep for generations, 'organic' isn't just a label on a tag—it's the line between clean soil, pure water, and breathable air for their children, or the alternative filled with pesticides we refuse to accept. At Avocado, our commitments stem from a simple truth: the standard that safeguards your family's health is the very same one that protects the planet and the people we've built long-term relationships with. That's the heritage we're honoring and the impact we're building, one traceable mattress at a time." — George Mathew, VP of Sourcing & Certifications
WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE
Responsibility is not a policy. It is what you do when no one is requiring you to.
During COVID-19, our team produced more than 300,000 facemasks for frontline workers using materials from our factory floor. When the January 2025 wildfires displaced thousands of Los Angeles families, we launched a relief program within two days — donating mattresses to 486 families and extending employee-price discounts on $888K in additional purchases. In 2025, approximately 97.3% of eligible returned mattresses were donated to nonprofit partners rather than sent to landfills — reaching emergency shelters, veteran housing programs, refugee services, and addiction recovery centers through a network of more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations nationwide.
Since 2017, we have directed more than $12 million in certified environmental giving to 60+ nonprofit partners through 1% for the Planet — applied to every mattress sold, measured against revenue, not profits. Combined with in-kind donations, our total giving has typically exceeded 2% of annual revenue. These are not initiatives we announce in advance. They are decisions we make when the moment arrives. That is what responsible looks like in practice.
COMFORT FIRST
THE AWARD-WINNING ORGANIC MATTRESS THAT ACTUALLY SLEEPS BETTER
The reason we replaced polyurethane foam with certified organic latex wasn't just certification — it was performance and comfort. Organic latex responds immediately and returns to its original shape, providing pressure relief without the heat retention or gradual compression of synthetic foam. It doesn't trap body heat. It doesn't off-gas. And it outlasts the material it replaced by decades, which is why our mattresses carry a warranty of up to 25 years.
Certified organic wool regulates temperature and wicks moisture naturally, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter without synthetic cooling gels or treatments. Our individually encased coils, manufactured in-house using recycled steel, provide zoned support for healthy spinal alignment with airflow built into the structure.
This isn’t just better for the planet — it’s why our mattresses sleep cooler, support your body better, and last longer.
CONSCIOUS
ORGANIC BEGINS AT THE FARM AND IN THE FIELDS, AND ENDS IN YOUR BEDROOM.
The same certified organic standards that protect the person sleeping on our mattresses protect the farmers who grow our cotton, the tappers who harvest our latex, and the communities around the land our supply chain touches. Organic certification draws a line in the field, keeping synthetic pesticides out of soil, waterways, and the product that ends up in your bedroom. That line runs from the Himalayan foothills, where our wool is sourced, to the rubber plantations in Guatemala and India, where our latex begins, to the certified organic cotton farms across Turkey, India, Canada, and North Carolina, to the hands of the bedmakers in our Fullerton factory who build every mattress.
OUR STANDARD
Certified organic isn't a marketing claim. It's our standard. More than 1 million customers have trusted Avocado to bring something better into their bedrooms — for a healthier place to rest, and a more responsible way to live. What's better for you and what's better for the planet are not competing priorities. They are the same priority, measured at different points along the same supply chain.
