Organic Materials Perform Better

Organic mattress materials including GOLS latex, GOTS cotton, wool, alpaca, silk, and cocofiber

CERTIFIED ORGANIC
FROM THE START

Every Avocado organic mattress is handmade in our Los Angeles facility — where skilled bedmakers have been crafting mattresses since 1987. Every mattress is built from GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, FSC-certified Pure Talalay® latex, GOTS-certified wool from our Himalayan cooperatives, and GOTS-certified cotton — along with silk, Peruvian alpaca, and cocofiber. No polyurethane foam. No chemical flame retardants. No fiberglass. Certified organic from the first material to the finished product in your home.

Avocado mattress fully GOTS-certified with MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and EWG VERIFIED®

WE CERTIFY
EVERY MATTRESS

Most brands certify a material. We certify the finished mattress. Every Avocado mattress holds GOTS finished-product certification (CU863637) — independently audited from farm through manufacturing, annually renewed, and publicly verifiable in the GOTS database. If a mattress isn't GOTS certified as a finished product, it isn't an organic mattress. Ours are. Every one.

Non-toxic organic mattress certified by OEKO-TEX®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD, and EWG VERIFIED®

TRUSTED NONTOXIC
CERTIFICATIONS

Every Avocado mattress is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I — the most stringent lab-based testing standard, designed for products used by babies and toddlers. Avocado is the first innerspring mattress brand in America to achieve it across every mattress in our lineup. Together with MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, and GREENGUARD Gold, that's five independent finished-product standards simultaneously — each testing different substances through different methodologies. No other mattress brand matches this combination.

Organic mattress with natural latex comfort layers and ergonomic coil zones for full-body support

WE PUT
COMFORT FIRST

Our organic mattresses are designed to cradle your body with natural latex for plush, pressure-relieving comfort while keeping you cool with breathable organic fibers. To ensure lasting support, we manufacture our own coils in-house — using recycled steel, ergonomic zones for healthy spinal alignment, and up to twice as many coils as conventional designs.

Avocado organic mattress with B Corp, Climate Neutral, Consumer Reports, and Good Housekeeping awards

RAISING THE BAR
SINCE 1987

Nine products earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, with three named winners of the 2025 Best Bedding Awards. We are a Certified B Corporation, Climate Label Certified, and winners of the Pinnacle Award from 1% for the Planet. Above all, we hold ourselves to the strictest organic and non-toxic standards — and prove it with certifications that are independently audited, annually renewed, and publicly verifiable.

BRAND CERTIFICATIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — and verifiably so. Every Avocado mattress holds GOTS finished-product certification (CU863637), which means the entire mattress — not just the cotton or latex — has been independently audited from farm through manufacturing. GOTS is the leading international standard for organic textiles, recognized by the USDA, and publicly verifiable at global-standard.org. A brand either holds a current finished-product license or it doesn't. Ours does. Verify it yourself at global-standard.org — search Avocado or license number CU863637.
No. Avocado does not use polyurethane foam, memory foam, or any petroleum-derived foam in any mattress. Most conventional mattresses — including many marketed as premium or luxury — are built around polyurethane foam. We replaced it entirely with GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex and FSC-certified Pure Talalay® latex. GOTS finished-product certification, which every Avocado mattress holds, explicitly prohibits polyurethane foam as a condition of certification.
Every Avocado mattress shares the same certified organic foundation — GOTS, OEKO-TEX® Class I, MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, and GREENGUARD Gold. The differences are in comfort and material depth. The Eco Organic is our most accessible model. The Green Mattress is our flagship — firm support with organic latex and wool. The Luxury adds more latex for a plusher feel. The Grand Luxe is our most rarified, with premium comfort layers including alpaca and silk. The Vegan replaces wool with organic cotton batting. Use our quiz to find your match →
No. Fiberglass is commonly used as a low-cost flame barrier in conventional mattresses — including some marketed as natural or non-toxic. GOTS finished-product certification, which every Avocado mattress holds, explicitly prohibits fiberglass. Avocado uses certified organic wool as a natural flame barrier instead. Wool is inherently flame-resistant and meets federal flammability standards without any chemical treatment or synthetic fiber.
Yes. Our mattresses are built around organic latex and individually encased coils — a combination that provides zoned support for healthy spinal alignment without the pressure buildup or heat retention associated with memory foam. The Green Mattress is our most popular choice for back and stomach sleepers. The Luxury and Grand Luxe models add latex comfort layers that work well for side sleepers who need pressure relief alongside support. Our sleep quiz helps match you to the right model →
Yes. Organic latex is naturally breathable and open-celled, allowing airflow through the comfort layers rather than trapping heat the way memory foam does. Organic wool wicks moisture and regulates temperature naturally — keeping you cool when warm and warm when cool. The individually encased coil system also promotes internal airflow throughout the mattress. This combination makes Avocado mattresses significantly cooler than foam-based alternatives, including most memory foam and hybrid designs.
Not in any meaningful sense. Off-gassing is primarily associated with petroleum-derived foams — polyurethane and memory foam — which release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as they break down. Avocado mattresses contain no polyurethane or memory foam. GREENGUARD Gold certification independently tests our finished mattresses against strict VOC emission limits for bedrooms and living spaces. You may notice a brief natural latex scent when first unpacking — this dissipates quickly and is not a health concern.
As a general guide: back and stomach sleepers typically do best on the firm or standard configuration, which provides the support needed for healthy spinal alignment. Side sleepers often prefer a plush or pillow-top option for shoulder and hip pressure relief. Combination sleepers tend to find a medium or standard feel most versatile. Body weight also plays a role — heavier sleepers generally prefer firmer options for adequate support. Our sleep quiz takes both sleep position and preference into account and recommends the best match →
Every Avocado mattress comes with a sleep trial of up to 365 nights and a warranty of up to 25 years. The 25-year warranty reflects the material standard — organic latex is inherently more durable than petroleum-derived foam, which compresses and breaks down structurally over time. An independent Life Cycle Assessment found that a single Avocado mattress generates approximately 47% less CO₂e over 25 years than the 2.5 conventional hybrids required to cover the same period. See our full lifecycle emissions data →
Memory foam is a petroleum-derived synthetic that retains heat, responds slowly, and breaks down structurally over time. Avocado uses certified organic latex instead — a plant-based material that is responsive, breathable, and significantly more durable. Unlike memory foam, organic latex does not off-gas VOCs, does not trap body heat, and does not compress permanently under weight. Memory foam mattresses also cannot hold GOTS finished-product certification, which explicitly prohibits them. Avocado mattresses are independently certified to five overlapping standards that no memory foam mattress can match.
Many brands use "natural" or "organic" to describe individual materials — an organic cotton cover, a natural latex core — without holding a GOTS finished-product license. Without that license, the organic claim is unverified and unenforceable. Avocado is one of a small number of brands that holds GOTS finished-product certification across every mattress in its lineup — not a certified option alongside a conventional line. We are also the only mattress brand to hold OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, and GREENGUARD Gold simultaneously across every adult and crib mattress.
Every Avocado mattress is handmade and hand needle-tufted in our Los Angeles facility, built with certified organic latex, wool, and cotton, and independently verified by five overlapping certification standards. It is backed by a warranty of up to 25 years — because the materials are built to last. Over a 25-year lifespan, the cost per year compares favorably against conventional alternatives that need replacing every seven to ten years. Across more than 44,000 verified reviews, our customers give us an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.
Yes. Avocado tested 320 PFAS substances at parts-per-billion sensitivity across our core materials — latex, coir, cotton, wool, and waterproof protectors. No detectable amounts were found. We were among the first mattress brands to publish comprehensive PFAS test results publicly, including the full substance list, methodology, and findings — view our full PFAS results in our Help Center → EWG Verified® certification, which every Avocado mattress holds, also prohibits PFAS as a condition of certification.
Every Avocado mattress is handmade in our Fullerton, California facility — where every mattress is hand needle-tufted by a skilled bedmaker using certified organic materials. Our facility is GOTS certified, which means the social and labor standards embedded in that certification are independently audited rather than self-reported. Our Los Angeles factory has been handcrafting mattresses since 1987 — 16 years before most of our organic competitors existed.
