WHAT'S INSIDE AND WHAT'S NOT.

GOTS-certified organic mattress materials including GOLS latex, cotton, wool, alpaca, silk, and cocofiber.

HANDMADE IN CALIFORNIA SINCE 1987

Every Avocado mattress is built and hand-needle-tufted in our GOTS-certified California factory, where skilled bedmakers have crafted mattresses since 1987. Our materials, from GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex to certified organic wool and cotton and FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex in select models, are independently verified from farm to finished product.

Avocado mattress fully GOTS-certified with MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and EWG VERIFIED®

WE FINISHED PRODUCT
CERTIFICATIONS MATTER

Many brands certify a single material, like the latex or the cotton cover. GOTS finished-product certification covers the entire mattress: independently audited from farm through manufacturing, renewed every year, and publicly verifiable in the GOTS database. Every Avocado mattress holds it (CU863637).

Non-toxic organic mattress certified by OEKO-TEX®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD, and EWG VERIFIED®

CERTIFIED NONTOXIC,
6 DIFFERENT WAYS

Each standard tests for something different. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, the strictest class, is designed for baby products and lab-tests for harmful substances. GREENGUARD Gold limits chemical emissions into indoor air. MADE SAFE® and EWG Verified® screen ingredients against known and suspected toxicants. UL Formaldehyde-Free validates that no formaldehyde is added. GOTS verifies organic content and processing from farm to factory. Every Avocado mattress holds all six as a finished product.

Organic mattress with natural latex comfort layers and ergonomic coil zones for full-body support

LATEX COMFORT,
ZONED SUPPORT

Natural latex relieves pressure and responds instantly as you move, while breathable organic fibers help regulate temperature. Our hybrid models add pocketed coils we make in-house from 100% recycled steel, zoned to support your back, hips, and shoulders, with up to 17,000 coils per mattress. Choose your feel, from Ultra Plush to Extra Firm.

Avocado organic mattress with B Corp, Climate Neutral, Consumer Reports, and Good Housekeeping awards

RAISING THE BAR
FOR THE PLANET

We are a Certified B Corporation, Climate Label Certified, and the Pinnacle Award winner from 1% for the Planet. Above all, we hold ourselves to the strictest organic and non-toxic standards — and prove it with more than 45,000 reviews and certifications that are independently audited, annually renewed, and publicly verifiable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every Avocado mattress holds GOTS certification at the finished-product level (license CU863637), which means the whole mattress, not just the cotton or the latex, is independently audited from farm through manufacturing and renewed every year. GOTS is the leading international standard for organic textiles and is recognized by the USDA. You can check our license yourself at global-standard.org by searching Avocado or CU863637.

“Natural” has no regulated definition for mattresses. Any brand can use it, for any product, without an audit. “Organic” is a certified claim. For a mattress, that means GOTS certification of the finished product, which audits the materials, the processing, and the factory, and must be renewed every year. You can look up a GOTS license by brand name in the public GOTS database. You can’t look up “natural.”

The certified materials also shape how the mattress feels and how long it lasts. Press a hand into latex and it pushes back almost immediately, so you stay lifted instead of sinking into a slow, body-shaped hollow. Organic wool and cotton pull moisture away from the sleep surface. Our coil models are built on a patented seven-zone innerspring with up to 1,379 recycled steel coils (U.S. Patent No. 11,627,813). And latex resists the permanent compression that wears out polyurethane foam, which is why our mattresses carry a limited warranty of up to 25 years.

No. GOLS certifies latex as a material. When a brand says its latex is GOLS certified, the certificate often belongs to the latex supplier rather than the mattress brand, and it covers only the latex. It doesn’t cover the cover fabric, the flame barrier, any adhesives, or how the mattress was assembled. Certifying the whole mattress takes GOTS certification at the finished-product level, issued to the company that makes it.

A good question to ask any brand, including us: whose name is on the certificate, and does it cover the whole mattress? Avocado holds GOLS for our organic Dunlop latex and GOTS for every finished mattress, both under license CU863637 and searchable at global-standard.org. Our Pure Talalay® latex, used in select models, is FSC® certified rather than GOLS certified.

Every Avocado mattress holds the same six finished-product certifications: GOTS, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, GREENGUARD Gold, and UL Formaldehyde-Free. The differences are in feel and construction. The Eco Organic is our most accessible model. The Green Mattress is our flagship, in Firm, Medium, or Plush, with organic latex and wool over zoned coils. The Luxury has up to 17 layers, including latex and microcoils, now in a lower profile. The Grand Luxe is our top model, with comfort layers that include alpaca and silk. The Ultra Plush is our plushest feel, with Pure Talalay® latex. The Extra Firm is our firmest. The Latex Mattress is all latex, with no coils. The Vegan replaces wool with organic cotton batting. The Wool Mattress is latex-free, with organic wool and alpaca over two layers of coils, in a true Medium feel. Take the sleep quiz to find your match.

No. Avocado doesn’t use polyurethane foam, memory foam, or any petroleum-derived foam in any mattress. Many conventional mattresses, including plenty sold as premium, are built around polyurethane foam. We use GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex and, in select models, FSC®-certified Pure Talalay® latex. GOTS finished-product certification, which every Avocado mattress holds, prohibits polyurethane foam as a condition of certification.

No. Fiberglass is a common low-cost flame barrier in conventional mattresses, including some sold as natural or non-toxic. GOTS finished-product certification, which every Avocado mattress holds, prohibits it. We use certified organic wool as the flame barrier instead, and organic cotton batting in our Vegan Mattress. Both meet federal flammability standards without chemical treatment.

Avocado mattresses are GREENGUARD Gold certified for low chemical emissions, and they contain no polyurethane or memory foam, the materials most associated with off-gassing. GREENGUARD Gold tests the finished mattress against strict emission limits for indoor spaces like bedrooms. When you first unpack it, you may notice a light natural latex scent. It fades quickly.

“Non-toxic” has no single regulated definition for mattresses, so the useful question is what was tested, and by whom. Every finished Avocado mattress is certified by MADE SAFE®, EWG Verified®, GREENGUARD Gold, UL Formaldehyde-Free, and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, and each one tests for something different. None contain polyurethane foam, memory foam, fiberglass, or chemical flame retardants, and independent PFAS testing found none detected. Learn what non-toxic means for a mattress.

Yes, and none were detected. In 2026, Intertek, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab, tested 679 individual PFAS substances across our organic cotton, organic wool, organic latex, crib mattress core, and waterproof mattress protector, at a detection limit of 10 parts per billion for most substances. Our 2024 round covered 320 substances, with the same result. We publish the full reports, substance by substance. See our PFAS testing, or PFAS results for our crib mattresses.

Start with how you sleep. Back and stomach sleepers usually do best on Firm or Extra Firm. Side sleepers often prefer Plush or Ultra Plush for more give at the shoulders and hips. Combination sleepers tend to find Medium the most versatile. Heavier sleepers generally prefer a firmer feel. Our sleep quiz weighs sleep position and preference together and recommends a match.

No mattress can promise to relieve back pain, so we focus on support and fit. Our coil models are built on a patented seven-zone innerspring. Many back and stomach sleepers choose the Green Mattress for its firm support. The Luxury and Grand Luxe add more latex for sleepers who want extra pressure relief. If you have a back condition, your doctor is the best guide, and our sleep quiz can help narrow the options.

It’s built to manage heat and humidity rather than trap them. Most of what people experience as sleeping hot is humidity at the sleep surface, not temperature. Organic wool and cotton absorb and release that moisture, latex has an open-cell structure that lets air move, and the coils in our innerspring models leave room for airflow through the core. Memory foam, by contrast, tends to hold body heat.

Avocado mattresses carry a limited warranty of up to 25 years. Conventional hybrids are estimated to last seven to ten years. Latex springs back to its shape night after night instead of slowly compressing the way polyurethane and memory foam do, and our layers are needle-tufted by hand, with no chemical adhesives between comfort layers to break down. A 2019 independent life cycle assessment by Trayak LLC found that one Avocado mattress produces about 47% less CO₂e over 25 years than the 2.5 conventional hybrids needed to cover the same span. See the lifecycle data in our Impact Report.

Every Avocado mattress comes with a sleep trial of up to one year (terms apply) and a limited warranty of up to 25 years, with the first ten years non-prorated.

Avocado uses latex where many mattresses use memory foam. Memory foam is petroleum-derived. It softens with body heat, responds slowly, and compresses over time. Latex comes from rubber trees. It responds immediately, lets air move through its open cells, and resists permanent compression. Memory foam also can’t be part of a GOTS-certified mattress. Every Avocado mattress holds six finished-product certifications, including GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions.

If you plan to keep a mattress for a decade or more, durability is a large part of what you’re paying for. Every Avocado mattress is needle-tufted by hand in Fullerton, California, GOTS certified at the finished-product level, and covered by a limited warranty of up to 25 years, with the first ten years non-prorated. Across more than 45,000 verified reviews, customers rate us 4.6 out of 5.

Every Avocado mattress is assembled and needle-tufted by hand in our Fullerton, California factory, with domestic and imported materials. The factory is GOTS certified, so its social and labor standards are independently audited, not self-reported. Our bedmakers have been handcrafting mattresses since 1987.
