Every one of our Cedar Stump Side Tables has its own story. We craft them in our sustainable Los Angeles woodshop from smoothed down, 100% real red cedar and a clear, eco-friendly varnish. With their natural knots, hues, burrs, and cracks, each piece is entirely unique. The light tones lend a warm touch to any room — and pair elegantly with our Malibu collection — while the rich maroon colors on the inside of the wood add a pop of vibrancy. Consistent with our broader company values, we handcraft all our furniture to meet the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility.
A lot of furniture is mass-made with cheap particle board, synthetic laminates, or veneers. Each piece looks exactly the same. That's not how we do things at Avocado. We individually handcraft all our furniture with 100% real wood. We believe in letting the rich character of the wood speak for itself. This way, every piece is original to that specific part of the tree. Our Cedar Stump Side Tables feature various knots, nicks, bumps, and bruises — such is life. It costs a little more to do things this way. But our customers love having unique, durable, thoughtfully crafted furniture that will last generations.
Furniture paints and finishes are among the leading causes of indoor air pollution. Many are toxic and emit harmful VOCs. In fact, the Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and particle board commonly used in furniture construction often contain known carcinogens such as Urea-formaldehyde or Phenol-formaldehyde. Our Cedar Stump Side Table uses a clear, non-toxic, and eco-friendly Ecos Paints wood varnish. In fact, they're GREENGUARD Gold certified for low emissions and Formaldehyde Free certified by UL Environment. That means the the stumps are scientifically proven to meet some of the world's most rigorous, third-party emissions standards for chemical exposure and pollutants, such as VOCs, formaldehyde, and phthalates. As members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, you can rest assured that our furniture supports healthier, environmentally friendly living.
Avocado is a certified B Corp and a carbon negative business. That means we work with Climate Neutral Certified to voluntarily measure, reduce, and offset more than 100% of our emissions, from resource extraction all the way to shipping, by supporting carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change and support innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Expect minor cracks, blemishes, scars, and knots. We sand down our Cedar Stump Side Tables so they're smooth, and to bring out the rich color of the wood. But keep in mind the side table was a real, live, beautiful thing — and the nature of its life will be on full display. Rest assured — we make our side tables with 100% real, solid, heavy wood, protected by a clear, eco-friendly varnish. They will stand up to the test of time.
We offer our Cedar Stump Side Tables in three heights — 16", 20", and 24". (Please note, the diameter for each will naturally vary, but will be around 12".) Each will stand out on its own, but as a set, they'll complement each other and augment any space with rich, comforting tones. Use them to hold plants, books, coffee, or whatever your imagination desires.

Shipping & Delivery
Our Cedar Stump Side Table is handmade in our FSC® C156318 facility in Los Angeles, California, in our innovative woodshop. The table will come fully assembled. Furniture is not currently available to ship to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, furniture and mattress and/or bedding orders can not be coordinated to arrive at the same time.
Solid Wood Construction
We use 100% real cedar wood sourced from Texas for our Cedar Stump Side Tables. Our wood exhibits the character of vintage material, including smoothed nicks, natural patina, fine cracks, and other weathering. The tops of the tables will be flat, but expect some variation on sizing due to the nature of the wood.
We do not use traditional lacquers or varnishes, which typically contain harsh chemicals and have strong chemicals that can cause headaches, nausea, and respiratory issues. Instead, our side tables use a zero-VOC Ecos Paints clear varnish, which is non-toxic and odor-free. It conforms to CDPH 01350 (VOC emissions test taken at 11, 12, & 14 days for classroom and office use), as well ASTMD-4236, specifically concerning oral toxicity, skin irritation, and respiratory effects.
Carbon Negative Production & Shipping
Avocado is a Climate Neutral Certified business. That means we voluntarily offset more than 100% of our emissions, from resource extraction to shipping, by supporting carbon offset projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Our offset projects help mitigate climate change and support innovation in addressing greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Learn More About Our Carbon Negative Initiatives
We operate an FSC® C156318 woodshop — in a facility completely separate from our mattress factory, in Los Angeles — which produces wood dust. Read California's required Proposition 65 warning for wood dust.
Return Policy & Warranty
All furniture sales are final, with the exception of any defects in workmanship. Defects in workmanship are covered by a 1-year warranty. Please note that this is a reclaimed wood product that will feature blemishes, holes, or other scars in the wood as a testimony to its age, noble character, and singular beauty.
Our Cedar Stump Side Tables are backed by an exceptional product warranty — 1 year against defects in workmanship. Of course, there isn't much that can really go wrong— it's a wood stump, after all.
